Paris Opera, Pathé Live and Imax have unveiled a teaser trailer for their forthcoming collaboration, the Rudolf Nureyev-choreographed Swan Lake. The teaser, along with new images, has been made available.
This is the first instance of a ballet filmed specifically for Imax, with an exclusive release in Imax theatres globally on 8th November, and subsequent screenings in other theatres from 10th November.
Swan Lake narrates the tale of Prince Siegfried, who must select a bride during his birthday festivities. In an attempt to escape reality, he dreams of an ideal love. His tutor tries to keep him grounded by reminding him of his responsibilities. However, on a dreamlike escape, Siegfried encounters Odette, a princess cursed to transform into a swan by the powerful sorcerer Rothbart. Only genuine love can lift the curse. Enchanted, Siegfried vows to rescue Odette and invites her to his celebration. To ensnare the prince, the sorcerer sends his daughter Odile, disguised as Odette, to allure him.
The movie was filmed over the course of four days — two of which did not involve an audience to allow for cameras to be positioned on stage and close to the performers. Shot solely with Imax-certified digital cameras, the film aspires to offer viewers an enhanced visual experience as the scenes come alive.
This release marks Paris Opera’s largest-ever global theatrical release, encompassing around 2,000 cinemas. Pathé Live manages the worldwide distribution of the film, which is directed by Isabelle Julien. The cast includes Sae Eun Park (Odette/Odile), Paul Marque (Prince Siegfried), Pablo Legasa (Rothbart) alongside the Paris Opera Corps de Ballet.
