The Minister of Culture of Buenos Aires has relieved Jorge Telerman of his duties as director of the Teatro Colón.
Telerman announced this change via social media, stating that “the Ministry of Culture of Buenos Aires has informed me of its decision to replace me as director of the Teatro Colón. For me and my team, it has been a great honour to lead this esteemed institution over the past two and a half years. During this period, the Teatro Colón has achieved several successes we are proud of.”
He highlighted accomplishments such as the development of new audiences, sold-out performances, diverse programming, and increased resources.
“I am deeply grateful to the many individuals who have made and will continue to make this possible,” he concluded in his social media post.
According to reports, Telerman was appointed in 2022 by Horacio Rodríguez Larreta. However, with the appointment of Minister of Culture Gabriela Ricardes, and given Telerman’s support for the opposition in the previous election, his position was at risk. Additionally, there were concerns about budget cuts as part of the new administration’s austerity measures.
