Primo Artists has announced the addition of composer Joel Thompson to its roster for Worldwide General Management.
Thompson, currently serving as the inaugural Composer-in-Residence at Houston Grand Opera and recipient of the 2023 Sphinx Medal of Excellence, has received commissions from prestigious organisations such as the New York Philharmonic, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Aspen Music Festival, Bravo! Vail Music Festival, Houston Grand Opera, Los Angeles Master Chorale, Atlanta Master Chorale, San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus, Kansas City Symphony, American Composers Forum, and the Sphinx Organization’s EXIGENCE Vocal Ensemble, among others.
His notable works include “Dove Songs,” “The Snowy Day,” and “Seven Last Words of the Unarmed.”
Charlotte Lee, Founder of Primo Artists, praised Thompson in a statement: “Joel Thompson is a brilliant composer and humanist, and one of the most important and promising voices of our time. His work is bold and socially engaged, presenting modern stories in impactful and truthful ways. Embracing America’s rich musical heritage while being firmly rooted in the present, his compositions are not only intelligent and sophisticated but also remarkably beautiful and enduring. We are excited to collaborate with Joel, alongside Just a Theory Press, to support his work as a composer, conductor, pianist, and educator, and to build on what promises to be a significant career and legacy in classical music.”
