Carlos Simon has joined 8VA’s roster.
In a statement, the PR company announced, “8VA is thrilled to introduce the latest addition to the family—GRAMMY-nominated composer, Kennedy Center composer-in-residence, Boston Symphony Composer Chair, and one of the busiest figures in showbiz, Carlos Simon!”
This season, Simon will have new works performed by the National Symphony Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra for the Last Night of the Proms (marking his BBC Proms commissioning debut), Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, and Carnegie Hall with the National Youth Orchestra.
The season will also see the premiere of his “Gospel Mass” with Gustavo Dudamel and the L.A. Philharmonic. This piece reimagines the traditional mass with gospel soloists and choir, alongside visual elements by Melina Matsoukas.
Additionally, Simon is scheduled to present an opera titled “The Highlands” at the Metropolitan Opera in a future season.
